Probably the first question someone would
ask of this piece is why would you paint gummy worms? Have you ever looked
at any food and said “that just looks too good to eat!” Well that’s
what I always said about gummy worms and various other jelly like candies
that I have sampled over the years. Once more light comes into play here.
The worms when light passes through them in a certain way become jewel like
in appearance. No matter how simple something may seem there is always a certain
amount of complexity about it. This premise can be proven by the simple act
of trying to make a so-called realistic rendering of just about anything you
can name.
When I was a child one of my favourite pastimes was digging
for treasure. My friends and I would dig up pieces of coloured glass shards
from various bottles that had been discarded by lesser informed adults these
were really sapphires rubies emeralds and lord knows what else! A child knows
not the monetary value of a gem only that it looks beautiful though it may
only be glass.
