“Plain Interrupted” is a study in light and how light sources can create new plains. Illusion is the stock and trade of every artist. I have often questioned when creating works of art where the illusion begins and ends both physically and psychologically. Does the illusion end when we are no longer looking at the image? Can the illusion become a reality or is it part of a “present”? Present, this very moment reality, that for all intents and purposes is the only existence we truly know. The past is gone and the future is but a dream. By casting light on a table from a light source we create the illusion of a table shadows help to create a place in space for the object that we know in reality only exist within the image at least that is what our minds tell us. Perhaps this is proof that the past only exists in our memories and you truly can never go back at least not with our present understanding of time and space. But they said we couldn’t fly either. I believe that the only thing that makes something impossible is the lack of imagination and knowledge to bring it into existence. The nay Sayers that are all too comfortable or too afraid to venture forth constantly holds the progression of man back. We need only look back in history to prove this. Until then I guess I’m just a plain interrupted.
