“Violet Rouge” is the first
in a series of paintings that I will be working on depicting various areas
of the Rouge valley. Traditional watercolour has always been one of my favourite
mediums; white is not used in this method only the white of the paper colours
are laid down in layers creating a wonderful sense of depth and light.
In “Violet Rouge” I am attempt to convey the
pristine nature of a heavy snowfalls aftermath. Snow sparkles and dark shadows
cast by trees and hollows tempt the imagination with a myriad of shapes. Above
the trees talk in creaks and groans as the breeze pulls and pushes their branches
and twigs, as if telling a story of winters past.
