One sunny afternoon while walking in
High Park located in Toronto Canada I was awestruck by the colours so richly
laid out before my eyes. A carpet of Cadmium yellow welcomed my steps as I
strolled along . We so often take natures gifts for granted and miss out on
the things that really matter in life. Fortunately for myself that day I wasn't
preoccupied with extraneous details and took full advantage of a gift of gold.
Watercolours have always been among my favourite mediums.
“Gold Leaf” was painted shortly after the completion of a very tedious piece
of work called“Still Wading” (Great Blue Heron),which was done in extreme
detail.
I was looking for a subject that would be less demanding and found it in High
Park on that fall day.“Gold Leaf” gave me the space I had been searching
for and for that reason was and is to this day very special to me. It seems
fitting that I found the freedom I was seeking in a wide open place like High
Park with it's rolling hills and mature fauna. All that glitters is not guilded.
